Edtech's shipping goes Carbon Neutral. Phil Hantman, Managing director of edtech, completed the planting of 560 trees in Northumberland to offset 100% of all their shipping carbon emissions. The plantation is intended to completely offset the companies carbon footprint created by the last 19 years of importing from overseas manufacturers and predicted to be enough to offset their imports and exports for at least the next 20 years. Phil used the calculator on defra's website to calculate the amount of carbon released when transporting a typical 20 foot container of goods from China to their warehouse in the UK. He calculated that on average 12 trees per year would cover the carbon cost of shipping door to door, including road transportation and sea freight. If business continues to grow at its current rate and all the trees survive, he anticipates the plantation will offset the companies future Shipments enabling them to remain carbon neutral for a further 27 years. Phil says that although shipping and transportation of goods is the largest contributor to the companies carbon footprint he is also looking at reducing the companies Carbon emissions across all aspects of the business. |
